Dance West in Concert 2012
Dance West, under the direction of Julane Stites and housed at the Arts & Communication Magnet Academy, will be celebrating women at this year’s annual
IN CONCERT. Thanks to a generous grant from the Washington County Cultural Coalition, the Company will honor those women who paved the way for all the privileges and freedoms this generation enjoys. In celebration of Oregon’s 100th anniversary of women winning the right to vote, Julane Stites and others, in collaboration with the film department, will present Sister Suffragist, a multi-cultural and historical look, through dance, of women’s struggle to achieve equality. Two works created by emerging young choreographers, Kemba Shannon and Eowyn Barrett were accepted for performances at the National High School Dance Festival in Philadelphia and will be performed along with two student works also accepted for performance at the festival.
Resident instructor/choreographer/ tapper extraordinaire, Terry Brock has recreated A-Train. Selections from Dance West’s performances with both the Oregon and Eugene Symphonies this past year will be restaged, featuring choreography by Jason Davis and Ms. Stites.
Dance West In Concert occurs April 27th-29th culminating Oregon’s Dance Month celebration, at the ACMA Arts Center.
