Everyone’s talking about Ballet Fantastique’s all-originalCinderella: A Rock Opera Ballet, set in the year 1964 with live music. See the show that recently sold out at the Hult Center in Eugene and earned consecutive standing ovations. Imagine a version of Cinderella where the setting is 1964, the ball is prom, the dance moves are the Twist and the Mashed Potato, and Cinderella goes by “Cindy.” Ballet Fantastique mother-daughter co-directors Donna Marisa and Hannah Bontrager have! In their all-original “rock opera ballet,” Shelley and Cal James (of the famed Satin Love Orchestra) join the unstoppable dancers of Ballet Fantastique on live stage with their Agents of Unity Band, playing such hits as “You Don’t Own Me,” “And Then He Kissed Me,” “Wild Thing,” and “Saw Her Standing There.” With their fourteen original arrangements of classic 60s billboard hits from The Supremes, The Ronettes, The Beatles, The Temptations, and more, Shelley and Cal and band (complete with back-up vocals) open Act I with “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” the stepsisters dream of the ball “Mr. Sandman,” and the Sunnydale Fairy Godmother tells Cindy to “Tell Him” that she loves him!
