INVICTUS Dance | Keeping Dance Alive in Portland |
Let’s keep dance alive in Portland people!
INVICTUS Dance is Portland’s official and ONLY Portland based dance magazine. INVICTUS Dance is your centralized dance hub for all information about Portland dance.
Invictus Dance is NEW! Started on April 1st, 2011, by Laura Mabe who wanted a centralized hub for all dance in Portland that reached out to dancers and audience members alike. Since we are new, please help us grow. Share Invictus Dance with friends, like our facebook page, follow us on twitter, visit the page ‘Your Dance Magazine‘ to join the community conversation and email Laura at lauraemac@gmail.com to get listed or tell us of new dance happenings in Portland.
Portland dance is on the map. Even New Yorker’s know about the fast growing and rich dance scene in Portland. Not even the hard economic times can stop Portland’s non-profit professional dance organizations from creating and showcasing their original works. No need to slow down. Let’s not lose the momentum. On Invictus Dance, ALL dance that Portland has to offer is seen EASY and FAST in one centralized dance hub.
Why the name Invictus you ask?
As dancers, we are personal artists…. we are the MASTER of our fate. We are the CAPTAIN of our soul.
INVICTUS
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
